Experience

David commenced employment with Coopers and Lybrand Actuarial in 1993 as an actuarial analyst. He worked in the Sydney and New York offices before returning to the Melbourne practice of PwC Actuarial in 1998. He left as a Director in 2005, then worked as a freelance consultant. He joined Cumpston Sarjeant in October 2007.

Almost all of David’s actuarial experience is in the field of general insurance and accident compensation. advice to clients included estimation of outstanding claims provisions, premium rating, reinsurance advice, agent remuneration, performance measurement and capital management. The range of clients included insurance companies, self-insuring corporate clients and accident compensation schemes.

David is a member of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and in addition to Cumpston Sarjeant, sits on a number of boards including the Australian Association of Gerontology (AAG). He is also an experienced public speaker and has presented in association with the Australian Lawyers Alliance and the Law Institute of Victoria.

Outside of work David has been heavily involved in the education of the next generation of actuaries. Currently he teaches Actuarial Practice and General Insurance at the University of Melbourne, where he is a Honorary Senior Fellow.
